Fashion expert Valerie Rippetoe of Marcia’s Wardrobe Consulting is offering this video to talk about spring fashions for women. It’s important to understand that you don’t need a full new spring wardrobe; but in reality a little updating can do the trick.
The first thing she discusses is how to work the safari look into your wardrobe. This is a very popular look.
The next look she discusses is the metallic look, which transitions beautifully from day into night.
Next up is the animal print phenomenon; animal prints, she says, have become a classic look.
Then she talks about spring-bright colors and how to work spring colors and prints into your wardrobe, from plaids to feminine florals.
An important addition to your wardrobe is a classic, the classic trench coat. This can go over almost anything: a dress, a suit, a pair of trousers. The trench coat is belted but can be worn open, and can take on all sorts of spring weather conditions; it’s a must-have if you want to stay fashionable… and protected.
Even blouses are making a comeback. Simple tailored blouses, ruffled blouses, pastel blouses… they can go with everything, from pantsuits to skirts. They can be tucked under jackets or sweaters (loose cotton sweaters are best for spring) or be the star of the show by themselves.
And then there are the flirty new whites. White is absolutely right for spring. What’s great about this trend is that designers interpret it in refreshing and unique ways, so there’s a wide range of styles in the market that work for every taste. Just choose something that works with your own personal and particular style. Dresses dominate this spring’s fashion runways, but you could try something daring, too: skirts or culottes with a camisole top. Sexy and spring-like! And use your accessories to make it more feminine, more flirty, more youthful.
Of course, consider yellow. No one was wearing it until Michelle Obama did, and now it’s all the rage for spring. But remember that you’re not required to follow anybody’s fashion dictates: fashion no longer lives and dies by the biggest runway trends. Social media changed all that! Now the best-dressed girls we know are less about a complete wardrobe overhaul each season than subtly tweaking their signature look over time.
Speaking of time, it’s time to update the little black dress. In fact, you want to strip it away—down to your underwear, in fact. Underwear as outerwear is a big trend for spring. The slip dress is everywhere: both on the fashion catwalk and in the clubs and streets as well. It’s sexy, understated, and amazingly easy to pull off. If you don’t want the “slip as dress” look, then make sure you still have some dresses in your closet, and the ruffled ones are particularly charming this season. A ruffled dress is dramatic and luxurious and doesn’t need to cost a fortune.
Or put prints together: stripes are all the rage, but why not pair them with something a little different?
And there you have it. Great looks for spring that will carry into summer and keep you looking good all the time!
